I'd say it probably doesn't as I no longer have windows on my viao after a reinstall of Ubuntu, though from what it was saying I really should have known better...plus I was a bit I don't care to much if it does because I haven't used the windows partition for anything but testing for a year and a half so even though there was a lot of stuff on the drive I doubt anything important or anything I didn't have stored somewhere else. So I think you probably still need to do it manually if you don;t want everything formatted.

I would cautiously say that all the above is correct. I installed it recently without doing any of what you say and with no loss of data from other partitions on the PC.

Disclaimer:  Nothing said or implied means that it will happen on you PC like that, or that you will not be required to sacrifice your first born to enable some part of the process of which I was unaware from not removing all funds from your bank account.........etc, etc.....you get the idea!

So i was looking over the installation page for Ubuntu to see if anything had changed and it looks like you don't have to do all that business with creating three partitions anymore, am I correct in this as in it just does all that for you during installation? And would I also be correct in assuming you can do a boot camp stylie on it and it will repartition a drive with data on and not lose it? Or do you still need to partition beforehand with something like gparted?
