One thing I really want to do though is remove the wired connection icon from my panel.  I've tried right-clicking the icon, etc but there is no option.
On my 7.10 on my desktop PC, by default there's no LAN network icon (so probably the same for 8.xx too).

If I right click over the panel > Add to Panel > Network Monitor, it puts the relevant icon there which is tagged eth0 (in my case).
The network icon is quite intuitive too in that the tag will change to wlan0 (or whatever) if you go to wireless, or if you add another network monitor icon will for wireless connections will have a wireless strength bar as well.

Glad 8.10's working well at this stage - certainly is a change from the shambles when 8.04 was released!!

Curry night tonight?! and the film? Grin

sorry Nick...I had to go and do it Cheesy

I upgraded to 8.10 and everything is great...some really nice new features!  One thing I really want to do though is remove the wired connection icon from my panel.  I've tried right-clicking the icon, etc but there is no option.

Only 8.04 at the moment.  I was going to upgrade this morning to 8.10, but was warned against it for the moment

I'd definitely hold back since it's the released beta version for customer comment rather than the live one which I think is released tomorrow.  In any case leave it for a few weeks so that any major bugs or 'omissions' are sorted.

To be honest 7.10 is still my favourite version - everything just works with it, and wireless for instance in 8.04 was a nightmare when it was released.

I formatted the windows partition...mostly in error, but I think a clean sheet was necessary!
