Interesting about OS X which you can see is very much Linux based.

Linux and OS X are both based of FreeBSD, which is a Unix like Operating system, so under the hood there much the same.

Thanks Eejj

Twas the OS which was corrupted.  Replaced the HDD since everything else has been renewed.

I must say this is the first time with an iBook G3 and I'm impressed.  OK it will never be the speediest thing around, but it's well made and looks great too.

Interesting about OS X which you can see is very much Linux based.

So for sale...
1 off iBook G3 700MHz logic board in good working order.
1 off HDD / CD ribbon cable.

They'll go on Fleabay in the next few days, but get back to me for a bargain if interested.

Thanks for that.

When I managed to work out which was the Option key, I managed to get into some sort of boot screen that had no HDD, so it looks like it can't read it.

Must be corrupt OS  Sad

Trying to fix one as a favour.
Start up and only get a folder with a question mark in the middle.
Got new HDD / CD ribbon cable - same.
Tried with some external RAM - same
Tried a brand new logic board (aka motherboard) - this has to fix it - same.
Tried booting off a CD - same.
Tried putting another HDD (OK not formatted to whatever you format it to) - same.
Scratching head- same.

Any ideas?
