...and to be quite selfish, why should I subsidise ...even further... the replacement of Bees knickers, regardless of how pleasant an opportunity that might prove. This is the national infrastructure here. "As vital as water and sewerage" he said.
Yeah well I will pay for what I use, not what someone else needs.

There is so much that needs not to survive the next election!

It would be the same as the road tax, we get taxed but is the money spent on the roads ..nadda....so expect the same for this tax also.

That's a fair point, Beees  - but I suspect that part of our previous phone bills and rental have gone towards broadband roll out in the past.  Somehow though, I doubt this idea will survive the next election.

It's only "not a bad deal" for those who want it. People of my mother's generation will be taxed on something they won't use. This tax is unfair - I can see that and I'm one of the people who should benefit from getting my knickers upgraded! Typically of our government (any party) - they made a commitment to upgrade and improve, then months later thought, "Where will we get this money?" and decided to tax us, then gift our money to BT so that they can make even bigger cock-ups, whilst attempting to do something that they should have been doing out of their profits several years ago - when other countries were upgrading their infrastructure and can no provide speeds and coverage of which we can only dream.

I couldn't have put it better myself, Bees.

I'm in full agreement with everything you said - well, everything apart from the knicker thing.

They are going to get Derek to tax our bleeding broadband   http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/06/16/fibre_levy/
